INFORMATION FOR THE APPLICANT
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please understand that unless the circumstances are unusual or extreme, you will need to make arrangements to pick up the adopted dog.
To be considered for adoption, please fill out and submit an Adoption Application Form (below) BEFORE contacting us directly via email.
ALL potential adopter homes are screened for suitable placements of dogs. The BTRA may refuse placement of a dog for any reason. By submitting this application, you give permission for BTRA and its affiliates to investigate and confirm all information that you have provided. All forms become the property of BTRA upon submission.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS TO ADOPT.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS.
You must be 21 years of age or older, or have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian.
You must have identification showing your current address and one form of picture I.D.
You must have the consent of ALL adults living in the household.
If renting, you must have your landlord's written consent and pay a pet deposit if one is required.
Your existing pets must have current vaccinations and be free from contagious illnesses. Veterinary records are extremely helpful. If our dog to be adopted states “ONLY PET,” there may not be any other pets in your household until this adopted dog is no longer there, either by death of the dog or returning the dog to BTRA.
If this dog is stated to be “NO CHILDREN,” this means exactly that. There may be no children in your home; or if you have visiting children, this dog MUST be kept totally separate from the children. This requirement is for the safety and well being of both the Boston Terrier and the children. If you have specific questions around this stipulation, then ask us.
You must be willing and able to spend the time necessary to provide training, medical treatment, proper care, and companionship for the dog.
At no time or for any reason is the boston terrier to subjected to the use of any type of choke collar.
All animals in your home must be spayed/neutered unless there are extraordinary reasons otherwise. It is your obligation to discuss this issue with us, and we will make the final decision.
A component of our Adoption Contract requires that you maintain contact with us, provide us with information on the dog's health or general condition if there is a change, and are prepared to relinquish and return the dog to BTRA if you are unable or unwilling to further care for the dog personally. You may NOT sell, give, or in any way, transfer ownership of the dog to another party without the expressed consent of BTRA.
Dog Rescue is a money-losing proposition; and without donations, we would already be broke. Part of this understanding is that you are responsible for picking up, or otherwise making arrangements to pick up, your Boston Terrier. Please do not ask our foster parents, volunteers, or coordinators to bring your Boston Terrier to you. They are already giving greatly of their time and money.
We strongly recommend that you read over Frequently Asked Questions to acquaint yourself with our expectations from and requirements of you on behalf of the Boston Terrier. There are very few Bostons (or other small breed dogs) that are suitable for small children. The vast majority are NOT suitable, and we do NOT recommend Boston Terriers for children under the age of 8-10, as a minimum, unless the circumstances are unique.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
There is always a minimum adoption fee in each case which helps to offset veterinary costs for the Boston Terrier you wish to adopt and allows us to continue to help other Boston Terriers and other dogs in need. You may add a donation if you would like to help other Boston Terriers who are too old, too sick, or otherwise "unadoptable."
All Boston Terriers receive any necessary medical treatment, are up to date on their shots (based on age), and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption if they are medically fit for altering. Some have pre-existing conditions, and we will tell you about these to see if you are up to taking on a Special Needs Boston Terrier or one who is recovering from an ailment.
Other than the adoption application processing fee, BTRA does not charge a pre-adoption fee or accept a deposit. We take you at your word that you are serious and are not wasting our time. We are all volunteers, and no one receives anything other than the satisfaction of helping our Boston Terriers find good homes.
All Boston Terriers listed on our site and on courtesy postings are to the best of our knowledge the breed or breeds described. We rescue dogs in danger from shelters, and always the breed determination is made initially by the shelter or previous owner or other source such as a veterinary office. If we describe a dog as a "Boston Terrier" (or other breed or mixed breed) in our rescue, it would be our best determination since we have no specific breeding knowledge or other expert knowledge of the dog's breed other than what is represented by the shelter or provided infrequently by an individual releasing a dog. Not all dogs of any breed are of show quality. Such is determined by the breeder and stock and purity of breed. Our personal knowledge of the breed is factored into our determination, but by no means is it conclusive. If it is a highly bred, show-quality dog that you wish, our recommendation is that you consult a reputable breeder with excellent references and good credentials.
After clicking the "Submit Adoption Application Form" button at the bottom of this adoption application form, you will be redirected to the webpage where the adoption application processing fee payment is to be made. This donation is non refundable. Until payment is made, your application will remain in a "pending payment" status for 24 hours, after which it will be discarded. You may use your ATM Card, MasterCard, VISA, Discover, American Express, or your own PayPal account, to remit the adoption application processing fee payment. If you will require longer than 24 hours to remit payment for the adoption application processing fee, please hold off completing an adoption application until payment for the adoption application processing fee can be made concurrently with your application.
